Santorini is known for it's prestine architecture and awestricken sunsets. However, Santorini is home to some of the most unique and beautiful beaches in the world. One of the best daytime activities in Santorini is a boat tour around the island in which you visit some of the popular beaches on the island. It is best to see these beaches via a boat tour because most of these beaches do not really have public access.

One of the most famous beaches on the island is the "Red Beach" located near the ancient site of Akrotiri. Because the island has a lot of volcanic history, the island is filled with multi colored beaches. Thousands of years ago, a catosrophic volcanic eruption leveled out the island which in turn created a caldera (below sea level) that formed a beautiful lagoon. Due to its volcanic history, this part of the island had red volanic rock. This beach is every photographer's dream as there is a distinct contrast between the fiery red rocks and the turquoise blue water. If you have the chance, snorkling is very popular and there are alot of exquisite geographical finds in the water.

On the southern side of the island, the White Beach is located close to the famous Red Beach. Something unique about this beach is that only the cliffs are white (the pebbles on the beach are black). The contrast of white cliffs and black sand and pebbles on the beach derives from the volcanic history. The best view of this beach is via boat.
Two other beaches popular to visit during a stay in Santorini are Perissa and Perivolos. Note that these two beaches are usually busiest beaches on the entire island. Many people are drawn to this island for the majestic blue waters and the black sand along the beach.

If you also have the time, visit the hot springs by the two volcanos in Santorini: one is inactive and the other is still active. Nea Kameni is the name of the volcano and is perfect for a day trip to the hot springs. These volcanos are the reason the island has so many colorful beaches in the island.
