Forget Gyros, Eat Dessert in Oia

Melenio Pastry Shop is easy to miss but not easily forgotten. This pastry shop is an actual hole-in-the-wall type of bakery. The small, family-owned shop is left of the bus stop in Oia and squished between several other restaurants and boutiques. It is Oia's best kept secret dessert spot during sunset. You have to walk down stairs to enter the shop. Melenio’s has been open for about 20 years and does not plan on moving anytime soon. It is a hidden gem in the middle of the Oia madness.

One of the employees describe dessert options to customers.

There is a small window peaking into the bakery, which shows off their displayed desserts. The window is all the way to the ground and goes up to about your waist. If you happen to look through the window, it will be hard to resist the smell of freshly baked bread and the

sight of all the cakes and pastries that are just below your feet.

The staff is welcoming and friendly. Upon entering the shop, one of the workers will ask you if you need help deciding on what to buy. All the pastries look delicious but it may be hard to determine what everything actually is. Let them give you a briefing of all their options and tell them what you have in mind. They are more than happy to help. Plus,

the staff bakes the pastries every morning so every day they offer different desserts.

However, do not expect to check your Facebook status while at Melenio Pastry Shop. The owners do not provide WiFi in hopes of encouraging people to talk to each other and enjoy the gorgeous view off their balcony while indulging in their desserts. You are in Oia after all, so the view will never get old.
