One Athens jeweler claims it symbolizes the first Greek calendar, which makes it very specific and unique to Greek history. Another jeweler in Oia says it symbolizes a Greek coin. A different jeweler says neither of the first two stories are true, and to this day, the common circular piece inscribed with undecipherable language is an unsolved mystery in Greek culture.

The Phaistos disk is known to be one of the most famous mysteries of archaeology. Originally, the clay disk was discovered in Crete, Greece in 1908 and dates back to 1500 B.C., but the language engraved on the disk is still unknown. The unique inscriptions include 241 symbols in a spiral order. Historians believe the inscriptions on the disk have to do with religious beliefs, although to this day they are still unsure of what the artifact actually says. The original disk that all these great jewelry pieces have been modeled after can be found in the Heraklion Museum in Crete.
