One of the staple pieces of Santorini is the hand-crafted ceramics that you will see on pretty much every street that you wander down. In almost every souvenir shop you pass on the island there are plates, bowls and cups that are hand painted. In most shops these ceramics are painted with different elements of Santorini, such as the buildings and the sea. Those ceramics are beautiful, but the plates and bowls that are painted with just random designs are on a whole other level.

However, if you really explore the island and look close enough then you will notice there are some shops and art galleries with some unique pottery. I actually came across quite a few of those shops with these amazing ceramics. At one point, I actually considered buying something but I didn't think that it would make it home without breaking in my luggage.

When talking to one of the shop owners, he said that most of the plates and bowls that you see in these shops are hand painted. Most of them are very unique and different from one another, but occasionally you will see some that are alike, like the ones pictured above.

Not only can you purchase the plates and bowls, but there are also some pieces that you can use for decoration in your home. These might even be better, because since the plates and bowls are so beautiful you probably wouldn't want to use them but instead just showcase them in your home. If that is the case, maybe you should purchase something that was made for decoration instead.

If you ever get the chance of visiting Santorini or just Greece in general, I highly recommend that you go out and explore the area. Find those hidden shops that have the unique pottery. Find the stores that have handcrafted ceramics. While the dishes with the beautiful landscape of Santorini is displayed, the ones with the unique designs might even be more amazing.
