Down By the Riverside

are chatting, enjoying the afternoon sunshine at the open space in front

of the center.

London Eye, Big Ben and London Bridge are not the only things you can see by the riverbank of the River Thames. If you keep walking down by the riverside you will find it—the Southbank Center, where artists can communicate with people through their stunning artworks.

To get to the Southbank Center, it was recommended to take the underground to the Embankment Station and walk across the river by the Waterloo Bridge. There you can see a great view of some landmark buildings by the sides of the river. There's also signs with reliefs showing you the names of the buildings you can see on the bridge.

The second floor of the Royal Festival Hall. There is a small gift shop for the Alchemy festival you can see on the right hand of the photo. On the left hand of the photo you can see a small cafe. People are enjoying their food and chatting between the exhibitions seen on the center of the photo.

It might get pretty confusing when you first walk into the Royal Festival Hall since the layout of the building is different from a typical art gallery. Yet, there's plenty of information such as the fliers and signs in the buildings that can help you out.

One of the main buildings of the Southbank Center, called the Royal Festival Hall, built in 1951 for the Festival of Britain. It was built to share hope for the future of the British public after the Second World War. The layout of the exhibitions on the first floor of the Royal Festival Hall is very interesting and unique. Different exhibitions distributed on the entire floor between several cafes. Some people are sitting at the tables enjoying their food and drinks, while other people are walking through and examining the artworks.

The first photo is a photograph called Explorer by Karl Ohiri. The second photo is an installation called Biryani. Both of them are exhibitions for the Alchemy festival. The third photo is an India street food market at the back of the Royal Festival Hall, also for the Alchemy Festival.

On the first and second floor of Royal Festival Hall are where most of the exhibitions take place. There are different exhibitions going on in the building during different times of the year. From May 19 to 29th of this year for example, is the main event at the Royal Festival Hall named the Alchemy. During the Alchemy Festival, artists from India can present their artworks such as photography, short films, installations, concerts and performance at the Royal Festival Hall.

There is no ticket needed to enter the Royal Festival Hall and to see the exhibitions on the second floor. However, tickets are needed for some other exhibitions in the building such as the Adventures in Moominland till August 20th of this year- located on the first floor.

A part from the exhibitions in the Royal Festival Hall, all kinds of art are still going on around the building. Street artists as well as creative street arts can be seen everywhere around the building. Also, the Belly Theater is an outdoor theater next to the Royal Festival Hall. Information about the performance is on the wall of the ticket office. People can sit at the tables in front of the stage to watch shows while enjoying their meals.
