Faros Market is a picturesque market in Akrotiri
Everyone wants to bring home gifts from their time in another country, but sometimes buying something unique to the place that isn't touristy can be difficult. This is especially true when shopping for someone who doesn't want jewelry or home decorations. While in Santorini, a unique and thoughtful gift idea can be some of the locally produced food and wine products on the island.
Santorini is known for its wine, and there are many wineries all over the island. However, only at Faros Market will you get the individualized, one-on-one experience that you do there. Maria and her sister run this small, family market that was passed down from their parents.
Faros Market makes homemade preserves, with many flavors, including Grape

The market is known for its homemade preserves and wines. Maria will even give you a free sampling of all the different flavors of preserves they make, including the zucchini, which is as unexpected as it is delicious. She will also bring you and your group down to the wine seller for a free tasting of the 6 types of wines they make there. Santorini is known for Vinsanto wine, a sweet dessert wine thats only made on the island, and Maria's Vinsanto is one of the best. She'll also give you the option of bottling and labeling your own wines to bring home, which makes for an incredibly personalized gift for a loved one. The wines come in 3 sizes, and all are able to be checked in a suitcase, and they are wrapped well enough so you have no trouble flying with them.
What makes Santorini so special are the small, locally owned shops and restaurants, and Faros Market is the epitome of that. The market is a simple taxi ride away at Lighthouse Road, Akrotiri 340 01 Greece. You can also walk to the Akrotiri Lighthouse (which has the best sunset views on the island) from the market. The best suggestion would be to go to Faros Market around 6pm, spend an hour there, and then make the walk to the lighthouse, so you can enjoy all of the beautiful sunset views that Santorini has to offer. It truly makes for the perfect evening.
Bottle your own wine!
