Named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, The Victoria & Albert museum was founded in 1852 with the goal of making beautiful art more accessible for all. The museum underwent two early site changes, but has remained at it's current location in South Kensington since the 1857 opening. It is located nearby the Natural History Museum and Science Museum, which is easily accessible by tube, bus, walking or car.
The museum has grown to cover about 13 acres in size and boasts a diverse collection of paintings, photographs, sculptures, fashion, ceramics, textiles, architecture, jewelry, glass, and furniture from all over the world. There is something for everyone!

To make the most of your visit to the V&A here are a few suggestions:
1. Before heading to the museum, it would be a good idea to look through the V&A website to choose a few collections to focus on. You could easily spend a whole day scouring through the best of the 16th-20th centuries. Depending on what your plans are, doing a little bit of research beforehand will prevent you from becoming sidetracked!

2. The museum has a wonderful gift shop that sells prints, jewelry, and various textiles and knick-knacks that make perfect gifts for even the most knowledgeable of art connoisseurs.
3. Be inspired and learn something! You may want to look into scheduling a tour of the museum or attending a program. A guide will actually be able to explain a piece's history or significance, enriching your overall experience. Note: photography and sketching is typically welcomed, too. Some exhibitions may be restricted, but you find more guidelines here.
